That's a wonderful shot of a wonderful building. And to answer your thought--- The old schoolhouse was one of many in the rural areas of the US. A one or two room school would be for any and all children in the area-- from farms and ranches, owners and workers alike. They were also open to native Americans. Most ceased operation in the 1950s when transportation made it possible for kids to come from longer distances. Also the family farms began to merge together and eventually become more "corporate" farming. The parts of Oregon and Washington east of the Cascade Mountain range are either high desert, or basic farmland good for wheat and other grains. Orchards and vineyards are quite common if water is available for irrigation.
